SCALE

SCALE AND HOW TO AVOID IT OR REMOVE IT

SCALE WILL OCCUR IN HOT WATER, IN HIGH ALCALINITY OR HIGH PH WATER

SCALE CAN ACCUMULATE BECAUSE OF A HIGH QUANTITY OF CALCIUM IN THE WATER IF YOU ARE USING CALCIUM HYPOCHLORITE CHLORINE, THE CHEAPEST ON THE MARKET, AT 65% CONCENTRATE AND A PH OF 13 (TWICE WHAT YOU WANT IN YOUR POOL).

TO AVOID SCALE AND STAINS:

  • USE TRICHLORO CHLORINE / NEUTRAL PH / HIGHER CONCENTRATE
  • MAINTAIN THE TOTAL ALCALINITY BETWEEN
    •   80 - 120 PPM WITH A SALT POOL OR A CONCRETE POOL
    • 125 - 150 PPM WITH A LINER POOL
  • MAINTAIN THE PH AT 7.5

IF SCALE IS ALREADY PRESENT / EASY TO TEST BY SCRATCHING WITH YOUR FINGER - WHITE OR GREY STUFF WILL BE COMING OFF

  • HAVE THE WATER TESTED TO FIND OUT JUST HOW HIGH THE CALCIUM IS
  • BRING THE PH TO 6.8 AND MAINTAIN IT THERE FOR 1 WEEK WHILE USING A SCALE REMOVER (QUANTITY TO BE DETERMINED WITH WATER ANALYSIS)
  • THAT WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO USE THE POOL FOR THAT WEEK
  • THAT WILL ALSO PROBABLY TURN THE WATER WHITE, SO USE A SKIMMER SOCK AND A CLARIFIER TO CLEAR IT UP
  • IF YOU WANT TO STILL USE THE POOL, YOU CAN DO THIS IN SMALL DOSES, BUT DON'T EXPECT QUICK RESULTS.
